Stephen Glassman, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut (ACLU-CT), announced his resignation from his position in order to pursue other opportunities. Glassman joined the ACLU-CT in December 2014, before which he served as president of the Community Design Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The ACLU-CT will conduct a nationwide search for a successor to lead its work to protect the Constitution in the Constitution State.
“The ACLU-CT wishes Stephen the best and is disappointed to bid him farewell,” said Andy Schatz, who has been serving as the president of the organization’s board of directors since 2010. “Stephen helped build a staff of deeply dedicated professionals, and each of them will continue to defend, promote, and protect our civil liberties. During Stephen’s tenure, the ACLU-CT successfully pursued legislation to enhance civil liberties, including a ground-breaking law to deter police use of excessive force. This year, we will continue to advance legislation on student privacy rights, drone privacy and safety, bail bond reform, fair chance employment policies, and more. We are confident that the ACLU-CT’s best days are ahead and that we will find an excellent person to lead the organization going forward.”
“It has been a great honor and privilege to lead the ACLU of Connecticut, which is one of the finest organizations in this country and one of its fiercest defenders of our constitutional freedoms,” said Glassman. “I have truly loved every minute of my time in Connecticut and will continue to be a strong supporter of ACLU-CT as I pursue other opportunities. At this time, unfortunately, I must focus my attention on a number of important issues which will take me back to my home in Pennsylvania.”
The American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut (acluct.org), founded in 1949 as the Connecticut Civil Liberties Union, works to defend, promote and preserve individual rights and liberties under the U.S. and Connecticut constitutions. ACLU-CT, with 6,000 members and a staff of eight, is the state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union.
