“The state established the Office of Inspector General in 2021 after decades of advocacy for racial justice and civil rights. We expect the Criminal Justice Commission to undertake a thorough and timely search to fill this critical role without any gap in service,” said Executive Director David McGuire.
“In selecting an inspector general, it is critical to prioritize candidates with demonstrated independence, integrity, and a commitment to fulfilling the obligations of the office. Currently, the office is investigating two dozen cases in Connecticut, including seven deaths at the hands of police and 17 officer-involved shootings. These incidents represent taxpayer-funded violence that demands fully resourced and transparent investigations. The ACLU of Connecticut will continue advocating for accountability and transparency in the state’s criminal legal system.”
