HARTFORD — The ACLU of Connecticut applauds the creation of the Artificial Intelligence Caucus to study and forward legislative priorities relating to artificial intelligence.
“It’s imperative to strengthen anti-discrimination provisions in artificial intelligence systems that make evaluative decisions, such as during the hiring process,” said ACLU of Connecticut executive director David McGuire. “The ACLU of Connecticut applauds the creation of a legislative caucus on artificial intelligence. There is a lot of work to do, and
we’re pleased to see this emergent area of law taken seriously. AI is already shaping lives by denying loans, healthcare, and jobs, proving the urgent need for regulation to prevent harm and ensure fairness.
“Connecticut can be a national leader in meaningfully protecting our residents against discrimination in algorithmic decision models. We look forward to working with the caucus to meaningfully strengthen anti-discrimination provisions in these early AI regulations. The state must go beyond surface-level safeguards and enact policies that prevent AI from reinforcing systemic inequities or harming marginalized communities and workers.”
The ACLU of Connecticut is dedicated to proper policymaking that reflects the need to understand impacts and mitigate harms.
