The ACLU of CT supports a resolution for a constitutional amendment we call The Equality Amendment. Passing S.J. No. 35 would add a question to your 2026 midterm election ballot that — if it passed with a majority of the votes — would enshrine the right to reproductive care, abortion care, and gender-affirming care in the state constitution.
S.J. No. 35: Resolution Proposing a State Constitutional Amendment Concerning Discrimination on the Basis of Sex Under the Equal Protection Clause.

Reproductive justice, abortion care, and gender affirming care advocates: You Made Your Voice Heard!
The General Assembly’s Government Administration & Elections Committee meeting to hear testimony on this bill was held on Friday, Feb. 7th, 2025.
You can watch the livestream of the hearing from CT-N here. You can also read submitted testimony here.
Note: if you plan to testify in person or on Zoom for the Equality Amendment, know that the opposition will also be testifying. Some of the rhetoric and malinformation is difficult to hear. If you feel you will be affected by this, it is okay to submit written testimony only. The ACLU of CT will be at the hearing to support you - please put your safety and wellbeing first.
