The ACLU of Connecticut is proud to announce that Dan Barrett will join the organization as Legal Director. He comes to Connecticut from the ACLU of Vermont.
Stephen Glassman, Executive Director of the ACLU of Connecticut said, “During his seven year tenure in Vermont he worked to move the affiliate to an integrated advocacy model in which litigation complemented and put teeth into their legislative and advocacy programs. Dan is a brilliant attorney with an exceptional work ethic and an extremely creative mind. We are all very excited that he will be joining us soon to lead our legal program including the expansion of our stable of cooperating attorneys and the development of a more robust and impactful litigation docket.”
Integrated advocacy refers to a strategy also employed by the ACLU of Connecticut that focuses on public awareness campaigns, strategic partnerships, and coordinating legal and lobbying efforts, to positively impact legislative outcomes in favor of civil liberties.
Barrett said, “I'm looking forward to defending and expanding civil liberties in the Constitution State. The ACLU of Connecticut has a long history of doing exciting work, and I'm thrilled to be a part of it.”
Barrett graduated from Cornell University, obtained a master's degree at Cambridge and earned his law degree from Northeastern. Prior to joining the ACLU of Connecticut, Dan clerked for the Hon. Janet Bond Arterton of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, and directed litigation at the ACLU of Vermont.
His advocacy efforts have focused on privacy, racial profiling, police accountability, LGBT rights, as well as many other issues related to first amendment rights, due process, and equal protection.
He will start on May 11.
