The Connecticut Senate tonight voted 27-9 to approve H.J. 58, a legislative resolution, to allow all voters to vote by no excuse absentee ballot access under the state constitution. The legislature will have to pass the resolution by simple majority again next session for it to appear on the ballot in 2024.
“This is yet another step forward in modernizing and further democratizing Connecticut’s voting process and brings us in line with much of the rest of the nation. All voters were permitted to vote by no excuse absentee ballot in 2020. This trial run was both popular with voters and successful administratively. Allowing no excuse absentee voting is an important step toward ensuring all individuals have the ability to participate in our voting process and can participate in a functioning democracy. We praise the senate for their decisive action tonight to get the state one step closer towards putting this matter before the state’s voters.
