On January 1st, fifteen new laws went into effect in Connecticut. Some highlights include:

  • Paid Sick Leave: Expansion of paid sick leave to companies with 25 employees or more. ACLU of Connecticut supported this bill with a strong coalition, noting its positive effect on Connecticut families.
  • Incentivizing Companies to Assist in Paying Student Debt
  • Coerced Debt: In response to a domestive violence survivor being coerced into credit card debt from their abuser, this new law has credit card companies review the details of cases to determine debt is coerced.
  • Election Safety and Security, including multilingual ballots
